Just one advice for you guys - don't try to pretend. It doesn't make you tough or awesome. You look quite silly when you tell stories about your 'army past' and 'real combat experience', especially during arguments with other people, when you try to 'win' using 'I'm right because I'm a badass' approach. You are not, and believe me, you look very stupid when you try to pull something like that.

People who really survived through horrible sh*t almost never speak about their 'fun days'. They don't even want to remember about all that crap. So the more you tell others about your 'I've seen shite' days, the more you put a 'pretender' label on your forehead.

Just be yourselves and gain respect with the help of your real achievements. Surviving through hard times doesn't make you 'cooler' and it doesn't put you higher than others just because they were not in the army. People don't like soldiers exactly because of this idiotic 'high and mighty' attitude, so even if you are 'real' one - don't be an arsehole and keep your testosterone to yourself.

Agreed. I recently joined and am with the 25th Inf Div because I wanted to put actions behind my words when I say I served. We wont be deployed for the time I'm here, I won't have real combat exp but I'll be the force behind the fight.
